Ngoc has pushed the boundaries with her work, especially considering tattoos have been stigmatized in Vietnam for quite a while.

In the past, tattoos were viewed as a negative because of their connection to prisoners and association with criminal organizations. But the times have changed, and perceptions are (slowly) changing.

She came to my studio on the long drive from Ha Giang to Ha Noi to get a tattoo. She explained that the 15cm scar was when she was injured in an accident, breaking the bones in her arm. We don’t want to leave an injury on their body, and she attempted cutting scars and sewing them. However, it was more significant, she even tried deflation, but it just temporarily flattened and was still extremely dark. Then she considered having a tattoo done to conceal the scar. Therefore, I created an elegantly shaped flower that makes it more modern and contemporary and minimizes the invasive area to prevent it from becoming more prominent.

The accident happened ten years ago that left a significant injury on her leg. Tragically, it was caused by a drunk driver who struck her motorcycle from behind; she was shocked and didn’t know exactly what was happening. The unfortunate incident caused her leg bones to break in the middle, and she was taken-by-ambulance to the hospital. I hope this tattoo makes her life a joyous experience for all and full of happiness.
